Avengers Directors give you Magic: The Gathering animated series on Netflix


The biggest name behind blockbuster cultural phenomena Avengers, The Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe and doing something interesting. The Russo brothers are developing a new animated series for the streaming platform – Netflix based on popular card game Magic: The Gathering.

There have been previous attempts to bring Magic to movie theaters, but this will be the first time the franchise will be adapted for the screen in the franchise’s 25-year history, which started with the flagship card game involving battles between wizards called Planeswalkers.

According the the brothers, Magic: The Gathering on Netflix will “expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains, as they contend with stakes larger than any one world can hold”.

Magic: The Gathering Netflix animated series will have the Russos brothers as executive producer, Henry Gilroy (Star Wars Writer) and Jose Molina (Agent Carter co-exec producer) co-write it.

The teaser image accompanying the news seems to feature popular character Chandra Nalaar, a human Planeswalker from the world of Kaladesh who specializes in fire magic.

The Russo brothers will “oversee the creation of an all new story line” according to source Ew.Com but there is no indication when the series will launch.
